Fashion United: “UK retailers face ‘inventory crisis’ in evolution of global supply chain woes”
Posted on 2nd December 2022
“This should come as no surprise to anyone” says Bill McRaith, Ex CSCO, in his LinkedIn post.
Current supply chains based on large volumes and long lead times to deliver low cost garments are no longer feasible due to the devastating impact of excess inventory, discounting, and in those cases where it’s not sold to be shipped off and disposed of, either to be got rid of in less developed countries, or worse still, to be dumped in landfill sites.
What is required is an overhaul of the supply chain to make it more agile and responsive to market demands. This includes more local sourcing and working with increased certainty to reduce waste, so that becomes a win-win situation for all.
