Sajjad Khan, ATMF chair, was invited by Leicestershire Business Voice to be part of a very interesting panel discussion about diversity of manufacturing in Leicestershire Boohoo Group PLC.
Chris Hobson from East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) moderated on a range of topics through 2 groups of panel discussions.
The strengths of local manufacturing economy were outlined, how we can best support these strengths, and promote all aspects of manufacturing from food, electrical, space to textiles. From a textile perspective this region with its history and heritage has been pivotal in helping brands such as boohoo, ASOS, PLT, New Look, Next to grow and expand through advantages of proximity sourcing.

Another topic of discussion was on how to make manufacturing "sexy" again to attract a younger workforce and thereby address the skills shortage.

These are all challenges that ATMF actively aims support members with. Connecting them to the local business and academic community, supporting the retention of skilled workforce and attracting external investment.
