ATMF visits two universities in one week!
Posted on 22nd September 2023
We had the pleasure of visiting Birmingham City University and De Montfort University this week to see first-hand how they are working with and promoting local businesses.
ATMF were first invited by BCU as part of their work on getting insight into the workings of the local textile economy.
A comprehensive conversation took place between Sajjad Khan, Dr Krish Saha, Professor Vikas Kumar and Deniz Yoruk that covered sustainability, innovation and circular economy and how a collaboration with ATMF can help impact local businesses.
Academia research and development expertise is hugely important for businesses in driving innovation that can stimulate economic growth, achieve commercial advantage and help gain access to funding. This was clearly evident at the STEAMhouse where we were shown around this fantastic £70 million setup.
STEAMhouse has state-of-the-art facilities delivering co-working space and business support activities to a community of small to mid-sized enterprises together with larger businesses and organisations. STEAMhouse is also an Incubator and Digital Innovation Hub that enables opportunities for learning, growth and collaboration for entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.

This was followed up by visit to Innovation Centre (DMU) / Barclays Eagle Labs for the launch of the Asian founders community meet. This is an event aimed at supporting and empowering Asian entrepreneurs on their journey to business growth. It brought together a panel of business founders for an evening filled with insights, networking opportunities, practical knowledge through sharing their growth journey.
Both universities understand the value of working and promoting the local businesses.
