ATMF held a productive meeting with Peter Chandler, Leicester City Council’s Head of Economic Regeneration
Posted on 9th November 2022
We discussed the prospects of developing a more strategic approach to meet the needs of the textiles industry in Leicester.
Both parties agreed that the employer and manufacturer voice is crucial in helping to determine the shape and content of what would essentially be a textiles sector plan for the foreseeable future. Meeting the needs of existing textiles manufacturers is absolutely critical at this moment in time as economic pressures bite. Leicester cannot afford to lose more employers or jobs.
ATMF has already developed a series of potential support programmes which it believes would align with a Leicester strategy, and which would have the potential to draw down support from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Getting all partners in the sector on board is the first task, but recent initiatives in the city have shown this is very possible. ATMF believes it can help this process as we move forward into what will be a challenging few years for the local economy.
